Teenage confidence.

Everyone needs confidence.
But you can’t be over confident, because that makes you seem full of yourself. That is very hard to grasp. Especially for a teenager. A big jump from child to teen are things such as driving, and getting jobs.
Getting jobs is probably the harder one of the two, depending on who you are.
Confidence is what you need, but when someone breaks that confidence, how on Earth do you get it back?
I was on a resume spree and wasn’t doing too bad, everyone was being polite, and I had done all the prerequisites. Until I walked into a flower shop.
I smiled politely, as I had with all of the other places, and offered a handshake. The woman snubbed me and looked at me. I smiled and asked if I could leave a resume if she needed any part time help. She asked if I was a florist and I said “no, but I’d like to learn”, she grinned and asked if I had taken any courses, and I replied no, she then said they couldn’t hire anyone who hadn’t taken classes, turned and walked away.
That is the last time I apply to a flower shop.
Now how do I regain confidence

Teacher Strike

Caught in the middle.
Right near exams.
With exams just around the corner and the teachers strike going on, kids are panicking. Our teachers are doing their best to keep us informed and give us the best preparation for close exams.
What I’m getting at is… People shouldn’t be mad at ALL teachers, just the teachers union. Do they want a raise? Yes! Who doesn’t? But not a huge one like what the media has put in our heads. What they want is to teach the future generation, or that’s what my teachers want, to just teach. They want smaller class sizes so they can give kids the best education possible.
1 teacher to every 18 students is accurate… If you’re talking about the principal(s), the councilor(s), and the teacher assistants. Teacher who teach in classes are overwhelmed by students and they need funding to continue educating.
Correct me if I’m wrong, and educate, don’t discriminate.

Under the cover

Covers are what separate people from other people. People put up covers to hide from the world. I meet the most interesting people with my dog.
My puppy and I walk around our little town and we meet some intriguing people. We met a girl the other day that had black hair, black clothing, septum piercings, head phones in and an eyebrow piercing. By her appearance anyone would’ve suspected she was the type of girl that didn’t want to be messed with, talked to or even looked at the wrong way. I smiled politely, minding my own business and my dog went right for her. Her voice was soft as she knelt to pet my dog.    Her appearance said “Stay away”, but her voice was kind. She turned out to be a dog lover and an extremely nice person.

The covers we put up make us who we are, and no one can ever change that. (Be Yourself)

Social groupings

As far as groupings go, High school is the worst for it. In high school you are thrown into the groups that you “fit into”. I never fit into any of my groups.
I remember one of my friends had gone away for schooling with some friends and she came back completely different. Her whole attitude changed and she started to act like the people she had gone on the trip with. I wasn’t too fond of the change but I supported her in every step of what she was doing. She invited me for lunch one day with the new kids she had gone with and I decided to go. Another one of my friends came with me and we all set out for our lunch date.    I sat down awkwardly and politely said hi to everyone at the table. They smiled, but said nothing. Its true we were all growing apart. The friend I had brought announced that she had to leave for another lunch engagement and I said I had to go too, I couldn’t handle the silence.

That lunch was awkward because my “bestie”, the one who had invited me to the lunch, didn’t speak to me. Everyone has to compromise sometimes, it seems that I don’t do things for myself.

Personal illusions

Every one has a different style, body type, and personal preference. Me, as an example, am happy with the way I am, I am 5’9, and have only a small amount of what I call “Flubber” on my stomach. I love the way I look because I’m not too skinny.   A while back when I was taking PE in high school and it was mandatory to take the class there were different body styles for every different kid. In the locker rooms was the worst.    My friend was a heavier set girl and very self conscious, and every day the same girl, (who was pin skinny) decided to whine about how “fat” she was. She would pinch the skin on her stomach and say “I got this over the summer, oh my god I’m getting fat. All I want to do is weights, I have to get this off.” All the girls who weren’t pin skinny were awkward around her, not knowing what to say. I only said the obvious to her, that her stomach was flat and there was no fat on it. She only rolled her eyes and kept whining about it.

To really understand someone you have to walk a mile in there shoes, I found out a few years later that she had an eating disorder and a boyfriend who only wanted a skinny girlfriend.

Public school system

Kids don’t like school. Woops, let me correct myself, not all kids like school. Some are genuinely there to learn, or to see their friends. But I am finally beginning to understand all the different aspects of the public school system.

Kids should like their teachers, that is a major factor contributing to how they perform in their days. You don’t have to LOVE everything about them, but respect them enough that you are willing to learn from them. Teachers should praise and listen to what the students have to say. Let me give you an example;
I had a business teacher and every time someone asked a question he would say “That’s a great question. You guys are so smart”, it made you feel good about yourselves, and made you have the confidence to ask those questions knowing that he and the class wouldn’t judge you.

There are other more difficult teachers that you also have to get through in high school… Another example from my life would be this; an older teacher who loved to fail students, not sure why, you’re supposed to want them to SUCCEED. The teacher would give awful “pep talks” at the beginning of the class and then expect you to be able to hand your writing in. I got a comment back once that said “Maybe try opening the novel next time?”, and for some reason it hurt my self esteem. I couldn’t stand handing things in anymore, and it wasn’t even about the mark I got, it was about the comments the teacher gave back.

Liking your teachers go a long way, and it’s a great idea to find ones who understand your ways of learning, strive for your best, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
